Going to Napa? Well, then the gorgeous Meritage Resort is worth checking out. The first time I went it was a cute little boutique hotel, now they have added on and grown to a sizeable hotel. I have stayed at the Meritage Resort & Spa a number of times since it first opened and have never been disappointed. Cozied up to their sun-drenched vineyard, it is a pretty exceptional experience.
They have 310 guestrooms and 12 pretty sweet suites. The rooms are Italian/Tuscan-inspired. Each time I have stayed for 8 days in either the Superior room or the Signature Suite. The Signature Suite had a little issue with the fireplace smoke and I got choked out one evening, but they have since fixed that (I hope). If you can afford it, the Chairman’s Suite is pretty swanky. I’ve had a few in-house catered dinners at the Chairman’s 8 person dining room table. Get a room that overlooks their nine-acre vineyard, Estate Cave or the pool. Maybe this goes without saying, but if you are going to stay at a luxurious resort, book a room looking over the parking lot.
The restaurants are great and stick to seasonal menus. Siena is kind of Cali-Italy (see what I did there?) cuisine. Blend is a smoothie bar. The Lobby Bar serves cocktails and small bites. Crush Lounge features bowling lanes, big screen TVs, and cocktails.
One of the cool features of this resort is the Estate Cave built into the hillside beneath the vineyard. Here you will find their award-winning Spa Terra and the Trinitas Cellars Tasting Room. Spa Terra is 40 feet underground, with well-appointed private treatment rooms, soaking pools, steam grottos, and water walls. It is hailed as one of America’s Top 100 Spas. In Trinitas Cellars indulge in a custom flight of Trinitas Cellars wines with delicious artisan chocolates. They have quite the collection of wines (as any cellar should) and resort gifts.
Swimming pools provide a refreshing reprieve, while private poolside cabanas and outdoor seating around fireplaces complete the setting for relaxation. The Meritage also includes a state-of-the-art fitness center and Our Lady of Grapes Chapel. I’m not gonna lie, “Our Lady of Grapes” cracks me up as a chapel name. Sorry Mary, no disrespect.
If you are looking for someplace to have a conference or a wedding the Meritage offers over 50,000 square feet of event space. For a cool virtual tour of rooms and meeting spaces go to The Meritage website. It’s a great home base hotel while you slosh and swill from vineyard to vineyard.
